I have a new student. Nice pup, but with a few challenges.
They signed up for a 2 week “board and train” program, paid the money up front… and decided not to go.
They realized the obvious. This program was to “break” the dog.
Show me a top level dog: competition, hunting trials, search and rescue, police, military, guide dog, service dog, etc. Are those dogs “broken” in 2 weeks? And what if the problem isn’t really the dog, but the owners?
I had a student with a 4 month old puppy. We were 2 lessons in, and the girlfriend decided she couldn’t take it any more. The puppy being a puppy was too much for her. So, yep. They sent the puppy off to one of these camps to break the dog. I warned them, but the boyfriend told me he consented to keep peace in the home. Got it.
Was the “problem” really the puppy?
Plan accordingly.
