I’m amazed at the kinds of questions people ask about dogs.
One such question is whether you can go to jail if you beat a dog.
The answer? OH, YES! You will go to prison.
Beating a dog is animal abuse. It is most likely a felony in your community. That means prison time. Would you like to go to prison? I wouldn’t.
Beating dogs makes them dangerously aggressive, causes injuries, and is an outrage to the community. There is NO WAY a jury is going let you walk free after they look at the police report, the veterinarian report, the report from animal control and any dog behaviorists, and the photos (if any) of the dog after the beating.
Beating a dog isn’t training a dog. It is just outright cruelty, and everyone knows it. If you think it is OK to whoop your pit bull, for example, you are going to be in jail with a lot of people who will then want to beat you down, too. Criminals in prison beat down child abusers. They will also beat down animal abusers.
In addition, if you are searching to know if it is OK to beat a dog, and if you’ll go to jail, you have already given away evidence against you. That search you did on Google and through your internet service provider has now been logged. They have your ISP number, the words you used for the search, the type of device you used to do the search, the date and time of the search, and so forth. All it would take is for the police to get a search warrant, and they can now find you and link you to the crime. You are already one step closer to prison. If you didn’t beat a dog, but know someone that did, you are now implicated as a potential witness to the crime, as well. You can’t erase the search in Google. They have your information, and it will be stored on their servers for many years. The same is true with whatever company you pay for your hookup to the internet, whether through your phone or your home computer. You are now involved in a criminal case whether you like it or not. And by the way, once you are convicted as a felon, forget about having a normal life. It is over. You will always be looking over your shoulder. You will never get a good job. Your movements will be restricted, including not being able to ever take a vacation overseas, you will get extra scrutiny at security checkpoints, and so forth. You are screwed.
Animal abuse is a crime. A serious crime that will send you away for a long time. You will deserve what you get.
