Is there a way to make your dog defecate?

Many times, people get impatient and frustrated in the house training process. So, they start looking for shortcuts to get the job done quicker. One of those shortcuts is seeking ways to force a dog to urinate or defecate, or to artificially prevent a dog from urinating or defecating.

Peeing and pooping are natural processes that eliminate waste products from the body. The body has to get rid of these products because to retain them would be toxic. On the other hand, to force waste products out of a dog can be medically dangerous, too.

I am opposed to using belly bands, for example, to prevent a dog from urinating in the home. I’m opposed to using diapers on a dog, as well. I’m also opposed to limiting a dog’s access to water, or using any device or method to force a dog to take a crap. All of these can result in serious or fatal consequences.

Dogs that are not clean in the home, or that don’t eliminate in a manner that you find acceptable… are UNTRAINED. They need to be put on a good house training program designed by a good, professional dog trainer or behaviorist. The use of artificial means and devices can be dangerous. I have worked with dogs that had urinary tract infections. The dog didn’t have a peeing problem, the dog had a medical problem. I’ve worked with dogs that had intestinal blockages. That was the reason the dog wasn’t defecating properly. I’ve seen dogs that went into kidney failure because they weren’t given sufficient water. I’ve seen dogs with parasites that affected their stools. And so forth. Using artificial means, instead of proper training methods, could result in thousands of dollars of medical bills, and even a dead dog.

I have even been asked by someone to help them house train their dog because they used to squeeze the dog’s bladder until it would pee. That’s cruel. That’s not dog training. That resulted in the dog still peeeing in the home, but also peeing whenever they tried to touch the dog, and the dog would run away from them… worse yet, they were angry with their dog for peeing and running away. What idiots.

So, quit being lazy. Quit being cruel. Quit being a cheapskate. Go hire a professional.

Follow Up: I can almost always tell when someone is being cruel to their dog in this manner. They use words like piss, shit, crap, or some other vulgar term. They are angry, callous, and ugly with their dogs, and it comes off of them like the stink on the crap they hate.
